laptop no longer recognises PCMCIA card in XP tho it did in 2000 -

Hi, I have had a laptop for about 18 months and the wireless card worked
fine while I was using windows 2000

I upgraded the laptop to XP and the laptop no longer recognises the wireless
card, the card is a Belkin 802.11g FS07010xx. I have spoken to belkin who
say it is a laptop problem. I tried the card on another laptop using XP and
it works fine, the weird thing is when I went back to windows 2000 my card
worked fine on my laptop too. I installed the same belkin drivers on the
other laptop so dont think it is a driver problem because they are thye
latest from Belkin.

I have an idea it is the PCMCIA adaptor on the laptop (02Micro OZ6912
Cardbus Controller) because I did a look on the net and found out other
people were getting weird results too and the O2Micro thing kept getting
mentioned.

The problem is, It is too techy for me, I dont even know what the 02Micro
thing does and cant find out how I can get it updated. I have tried
uninstalling it but it just pops back up.

Has anybody got any idea, could it be the cardbos thing, if so is there
any way to fix it or is it a matter of going back to windows 2000 to get
everything running again.

Have you tried the manufacturer (Dell, Compaq, whoever) for new drivers?
Or even a BIOS update?

When I moved from Win2K to XP I had to download and install several new
drivers and a new BIOS from HP to get my Pavilion to work with XP. Once
I did that it worked fine for years.

Hi Lance,

its a Hi-Grade Notine 2220. I got in touch with the company and they were
very helpful (not!!), told me it was out of warranty so not their problem,
told me to get in touch with www.twinhead.com (apparently they made the
laptop), I emailed them 4 times and never even got a response from them. If
they are reading this, 'your support service - what support service'.
Anyway, I would get a bios or driver update for the laptop if I could find
somebody who would give me one but Im afraid Im still stuck. I am pretty
convinced the laptop is not faulty because everything works fine with windows
2000 but Im starting to get a bit desperate now because I have no idea how to
get it sorted.

Have you tried to visit a local support specialists or a large computer store.
When they see the machine they can fix this in less time than you typed
your message. (But they can destroy it completely as well - the tech folks
are like this).

Another option is to connect your machine to wired internet and send Remote
Assistance request to somebody you know who *is* techy.

Holy cow, and I thought PCChips were hard to update. Maybe you should
stick with Win2k.

I found some drivers for Hi-Grade notebooks here:
