Hi,

I have a laptop that keeps loosing it's domain membership (Windows 2000 AD
Domain). This laptop sees the network seldom and it has happened to other
laptops of ours. There must be some sort of security setting causing this?
As if the laptop doesn't connect to the network in the past 30 days, domain
membership is reset or something?
Where is this setting (even if it's adjustable)... or if it's not
adjustable, does anyone know (or know of a paper) about this?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You must mean the secure channel. Have a look:

Are the users logging on locally losing the cached credentials? Sometimes
you see this when a user wants to join their home network.

Quick question (not mentioned in the article)...
When this member computer password changes (every 30 days), does the member
have to be on the network AT THAT precise time in order to sync?? Or can it
re-connect a day after to sync? Or will the change happen before the 30
days if the computer connects a few days before?
Don't quite understand this 30 day password reset. Will it become out of
sync if the member has not connected in 30 days basically? Thus requiring
the Netdom command to reset?

Anyway, thanks again!!

Hi John,

In W2k or higher the machine account is treated like a
user account e.g., if the password is not correct it relies
on the previous password. If 60 days pass you are out
of luck. Have a look at the following:
