Laptop and Wireless

I just got high speed cable into my house, a new laptop,
and a wireless router. I can't get the system set up.
Do I even need a wireless router if I am only using one
computer?

For wireless, you would need a wireless router, yes.

I am in a similar situation: New Laptop with integrated
Wirless 802.11g. I bought a Microsoft Wireless G Base
Station MN700. I have a cable modem (USB and Ethernet) I
only want to connect to the modem wirelessly throughout
the house. The manual for the MN-700 seems to direct me
to connect the modem to the MN-700 and the MN-700 to the
laptop with ethernet cable.
How should I set the MN-700 up so that I can access the
modem wirelessly? Only one laptop no other computer ( I
also have an HP 5850 wireless printer which I would also
like to access wirelessly)

You don't have to have a wireless router. But, a laptop
with wireless will not confine you to one area of your
house. I have wireless, and it's great.

From what I remember, the whole setup with the 700 is pretty easy. Although,
since your wifi card isn't microsoft you wont be able to configure the
wizard using it. I think you'll have to plug in with your standard ethernet
to do that.

Simply setup the 700 the way mentioned in the users guide
(using blue ethernet cable). Once through, just remove
the cable and u should be able to access wirelessly.
