I have a wireless network running 2 desktops. I bought a laptop
recently and that too was running perfectly well on the network.
However, since my son took it to school (he assured me he made no
changes) the laptop continues to connect to the network and share the
printer but will not access the internet. Can anyone suggest what I
need to check?

has a proxy server been set up? (IE->properties->connections->lan settings;
use a proxy server shouldn't be ticked)

Bob,

Thanks. That works and I can now access the internet. Do you think
that while it was away the laptop was trying to connect to other
networks which altered the proxy server settings?

IE can look for proxy server settings automatically and then use them.(if
the relevant boxes are ticked)
School environments frequently use a proxy server; home environments connect
directly, as a rule, and don't need a proxy.
