LAN problem with new PC

Hi!

I have a small LAN at home, for the moment 3 PC's and one "LAN-disk".
They has worked just fine, but I have problem getting my new PC to see
the other PC's or the LAN-disk.

Config:
PC 1, ip: 10.123.123.11
PC 2, (the new) ip: 10.123.123.1
PC 3, (my wifes) ip: 10.123.123.5
LAN-disk, ip: 10.123.123.6
ADSL-router, ip: 10.123.123.222

Netmask at all of the above: 255.255.255.0
I don't have NetBEUI at at least PC 1 or PC 2. No WINS server at
anyone. No DHCP (all ip addresses are "fixed").

I can ping everyone from anyone (Including PC 2). All have groupname
"GROUP1".

***But PC 2 cannot see anyone or their shares.***

The other PC's can see PC 2 and it's shares (for the moment only the
printershare - although I haven't any printer defined for PC 2).
I have checked the firewalls and their logs. Nothing is blocked.

So I'm wondering 2 things:

1. What is my problem ?

2. What is the requisites for a working LAN ? (I e sharing disks and
printers etc.)
I thought that it should work if they have a common netmask/ipaddresses
and the same groupname. And without any WINS server or DHCP etc.
(As it worked before the new PC - and still work as the other PC's and
the LAN-disk can see each other and also the new PC 2.)

TIA
Thomas

You don't need WINS and DHCP,. However, you may need to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. To figure out the problem, post back with the error when using net view \\remotepcip.

I get system error 53 when entering "net view \\10.1.1.5" or "net view
\\10.1.1.5".

I see now that if forgot to mention that if I add NetBEUI to
network/adapter at the new PC, then I can see the other shares. But as
I have got this (the network access in the LAN) working before without
NetBEUI I rather don't want to use it.

System error is connection or firewall issue. Make sure no any firewall blocking the access.

System Errors System error 52 - You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. System error 53 - The network path was not found ...

I have solved the problem !

I used the registry editor and compared the values under the key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\NetBT\Parameters"
with the same at PC 1.
I noticed that they were different and much fever at my problem PC (PC
2) compared with PC 1.

So I completely uninstalled the TCP/IP protocol at PC 2, rebooted, and
reinstalled it.
And now it worked ! (I can see and access the shares at the other
PC's.) 8O

Apparently had the orginal install of TCP/IP gone wrong and Windows
doesn't seem to recheck the parameters when You change the values in
the Network/TCP/IP properties.
(Idiotic behaviour, BTW.)
