LAN not waking afer standby...

Hi there, I wonder if anybody can help me.

I have just installed my Wireless network at home and it is all working
really well.

I have but one issue, and that it on one of my PCs (WinXP) that has a
USB 2 Wireless dongle, does not recommect to the LAN once the PC is
woken from standby (plain standby - not hibernation). The wireless
re-establishes itself but the LAN does not. Presumably this is something
to do with the USB NIC not telling the PC that the link is back ans do
the LAN services don't see the link.

Other then not using standby mode, buying PCI wireless car or cabling,
is there anything that I might be able to do this.

Thanks for any help.
Steve

Make and model?

How are wireless connections managed (by XP or the manufacturer's utility)?

It is not clear what you mean. Please describe what led you to this
conclusion.

Does using static IP configuration avoid the problem?

Kcorp KLS 5810 with USB NIC Kcorp KLX-682 USB 2.0 dongle.

Manufactureres utility.

The Kcorp software detects the wireless network correctly and shows a
good quality connection.
XP on the other hand fails to re-establish the Windows to Windows network.

Don't know, haven't tried it - I must admit that I thought PCs going to
standby that had DHCP assigned IPs remember them - maybe it is the
router that is not remembering which would make more sense. I'll check
it out.

Thanks
Steve

They should, but Windows being Windows, anything could happen.

I don't follow that logic. The router doesn't know whether the PC's
are asleep or awake so it wouldn't do\not do anything dependent on the
PC's awakeness.

I was wondering if the router detected that the wireless link to the
access point had dropped would make it 'forget' the IP address it had
given the machine. Pronanly totally wrong - but that was my logic!

No. If a machine goes to sleep, wireless or wired, the IP address is
retained. You can still ping and access files on a PC when it is
asleep.

Can you use/have you tried using XP's built-in capabilities instead?

OK.

Again, please describe what led you to this conclusion. What can't you do
that you could before?

Alex
