Hi,

If two boxes are connected to 1 wired LAN plug on a Hub, will they both
have the same LAN IP or will they be different.

I have one wired LAN connection and 2 boxes and want to know if I can
connect both.

Thanks

Rock

If there is a DHCP server, it will give each box a different IP,
otherwise you must set the IP for each box.

Think of a network adapter as a house. Think of the IP Address as the
postbox number. Think of network traffic as the mail. HTH.

I _assume_ that you mean that you want to plug two machines into
a single floor/wall LAN point by plugging a hub into the floor
point and the machines into the hub. If I'm right:

1: You need to make sure that the hub to floor-point connection
either uses a crossover cable, or connects to a crossover port on
the hub.

2: The 2 machines must have different IP addresses. If your LAN
uses DHCP then this will happen automatically. If the machines
are manually configured, you need to manually configure different
addresses.

HTH

Only one can be used. Get a cheap firewall/router box, which will allow
several computers to share the connection.

Huh? What role would a firewall/router fulfill in a LAN not connected
to the Internet?

Where did the OP say he wasn't on the internet? However, his question was
so vague, it's hard to say what he wants. Frequently, when this sort of
question appears, it's about sharing an internet connection.

He didn't. One shouldn't assume either way. That was my point.

However, his question was

Better to ask the OP and draw out the facts than boldly go where one
might not be justified.
