I find that my Win98se machine keeps dropping the connection to the LAN.
When I reboot it comes back. What can cause this, and how do I fix it. It
sometimes happens in the middle of working on the network. TIA PaulG

don't know for sure,
but maybe it's a power setting in the bios,
or an access permission setting in the server
if the little green "connected" light on the NIC on?

Check if you've got any power management on the nic
itself. On the intel mainboards with onboard nic's they
have a power tab on the device in device manager. It
usually says: "allow this device to turn off to save
power". Woohoo, a nic must really use a lot of power...

Just switch that off and reboot.

Good luck

Yes the little green lights are blinking merrily. There is no power mgmt.
on the card. I tried installing a seperate nic, (original's onboard), but
it also suffered from the on and off blues. It may actually be a problem
with the transceivers on the network. Thanks for the input. PaulG
