Kudos to Carey Holtzman

I have followed Carey's instructions to the letter and IT WORKS! My ME
machine now talks to my XP machine.

One question. Is there any way to get XP to let me access files in the
"Program Files" directory from my ME machine?

No, this won't work. An application needs to be installed on the PC you
want to use it on, unless it's a very simple application. If you're trying
to run Word or games over the network link it won't work.

That directory is protected by XP. If you convert your XP back to FAT32,
all directories will be accessible, but I don't recommend it.

When Windows XP is installed on an NTFS disk partition using "Simple
File Sharing", it doesn't allow sharing the Documents and Settings,
Program Files, or Windows folders.

You can share subfolders within those folders, e.g. you can share
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express" and access that folder from another
computer on the network.

If you have Windows XP Professional, you can permanently disable
Simple File Sharing, which removes those sharing restrictions:

1. Open My Computer and click Tools | Folder Options | View.
2. Scroll to the end of the advanced settings.
3. Un-check "Use simple file sharing (recommended).
