Konqueror "unable to connect to internet"

I have SuSE 9.1 Personal installed and I am unable to connect
to the internet using Konqueror.

I am trying to connect through a lan connection at school.
What settings should I be using to connect?

One peculiarity:

We must register our MAC address with the school before connecting
to the internet. Usually, on the first connection, A website appears
and
we have to fill out some registration forms and about 30 minutes later
we can connect to the internet.

But that web site is not appearing in Konqueror.

I had this problem with IE6.0. I typed "resnet" in the location bar(I
think this is a name for the dorm network) and I received the
registration form. This does not work in Konqueror.

Thanks for your help

As no details available I would only guess.
I guess they are routing you out through a transparent proxy or firewall,
which either lets you out (if your MAC is included in pass-list) or
redirects you to an internal URL to fill a form. So normally you shouldn't
have to know which URL it is.

Based on this guess, it might not work depending on two more guesses:

1. Your default gateway addrees is not (or incorrectly) set in your
networking setup, and your box is not sending the packets to the gateway
machine (with firewall and proxy). In a campus environment I guess they
would have a DHCP server assigning addresses to clients, so your network
setup must indicate that (your box obtains its IP address via DHCP).

2. The redirection is tested only for IE, and it's not working with other
browsers. Try all browsers you have. Mozilla should stand a better chance
as it is second most used browser, so they may also have tested
redirection with it.

If it still doesn't work, you should ask the network admin the gateway's
IP address, and registration URL. Ping the gateway to test if you have a
working LAN connection to begin with. Then do a "traceroute
100.100.100.100" (any external IP) and see if your packets are getting
routed to the gateway (and possibly out to internet). If not, see (1).
Then register via the explicit URL you got from the network admin.
