Hello all,

Hope you can help me out on this one.
I have the following config:

Toshiba Tecra notebook with a 3-Com 11g wireless pcmcia card
(prism54g).
Running Slackware 9.1 / Kernel 2.4.24 and the latest prism54 driver
from www.prism54.org

Just upgraded today to the newest Kismet Kismet-feb.04.01.
(fresh install)

Ok here's my problem.

I'm trying to crack the WEP encryption of my own accesspoint,
a 3-Com 3CWE554G72 Wireless 11G Cable/DSL gateway.
Everybody says it's easy so i have to find out

My problem is that Kismet never logs encrypted/weak packets.
Same goes for airsnort.
It only logs normal packets / LLC packets.
I drove through town with my car and the laptop on the passenger
seat to test some other networks but it's still the same, never
crypted or weak packages.

For example, my own network:

Packets : 4004
Data : 0
LLC : 4004
Crypt : 0
Weak : 0
Dupe IV : 0

According to Kismet, WEP is enabled:

3COM54G A Y 011 4530 0.0.0.0

Hope somebody can explain this behavor, maybe
I forgot to install something?

Thx in advance,

--
Martijn.

Looks to me like all the access point is sending out is beacons. If
there is no wireless traffic you won't pick up any weak packets.

To do a good test you need one or more clients sending or receiving
data from your access point. The more data that is sent the sooner you
will see weak packets. Also the access points by different makers will
produce substantially different amounts of weak packets. Cisco will
produce very few and others like linksys, dlink, netgear will produce
many more.
