Kind of OT - dialup

A friend wants to continue to use dial up to access email and the odd website.
Apparently she was on TalkTalk and it stopped working, it took some time to be
told they have stopped dialup accounts.

Any recommendations for a pay per use dialup ISP as she doesn't feel the need
for a monthly account ?

Claranet still do a dial-up pay as you go using 0845 numbers.

0845 numbers are free on some BT call packages. Then there used to be
vPOP geographic numbers as well!

Worth double checking that before relying on them being free, "normal"
0845 are free, but seem to remember some smallprint about "internet"
0845 being chargeable.

and create a personal account and get POP3 email too.

If she is still using Talk Talk as a telecoms provider (i.e. bill goes
directly to them) then using a cheap rate ISP will be out of the
question - they surcharge such calls.

I've a windows 95 using friend that is now cut off from the net thanks
(partly) to TalkTalk scrapping dial-up. She also didn't want broadband,
and now it's too late to teach her new tricks to get on that anyway with
a newer secure PC.

I'd recommend using one of the services that you have to register for
eg, the Plusnet one (jeez, did I say that), the non-registration ones
have been used a lot by spammers and you may find that the originating
IP addresses have been blacklisted by receiving mail servers, certainly
what I found when I tested a few a while back.
