Dear all,

I have no network access following a kernel upgrade... I have upgraded
from 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 to 2.6.17-1.2142_FC4. When I boot using the new
kernel X-server (graphics thing) fails, this isn't a problem I know how
to resolve this (I think). Once boot has completed I am able to login
but cannot access the network. When I try to ping 127.0.0.1 or
192.168.0.1 I get:

ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted

Being a complete newbie when it comes to these things I have absolutely
no idea how to resolve the issue. Any suggestions? I have edited my
grub.conf for the meantime so I boot the old kernel.

Cheers,

Ben

Most likely your network is firewalled off with iptables. Do:

iptables -F

to remove it and try again.

I had that on my laptop, because it had decided to partially replace my
wireless configuration and it got left with a system that didn't work. I
resorted to using the older kernel for a while until I finally sorted
out what it had done and fixed it.

No joy, I tried that and have the same problem.

I have a wired network card, if that makes any difference (not to the
above, but in general).

Its been suggested (in an offline conversation) that it may be an issue
with drivers.

I still have absolutely no idea....

Well, what hardware do you have? (type "lspci -v" and send the output)

You have too much stuff at IRQ5. Go into your BIOS, make sure ACPI and
PNP (Plug and Play) OS are selected. You may well be OK afterwards.

For your video, the "nv" driver should work fine (make sure your
xfree86.conf or xorg.conf contains the line

Driver "nv"

(and not Driver "nvidia") in Section "Device".

Then /var/log/X* will tell you what is wrong with your X invocation (if
there is still something wrong).

That doesn't make a difference. I twiddled with the BIOS, resulting in

It appears to be a problem with SELinux, see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=178006

Disabling SELinux (/sbin/setenforce 0) resolves the issue. Although I'm
guessing disabling SELinux permanently isn't a good idea...
