Keeping the Windows XP VPN Client open across logins

While I am able to create and establish a VPN connection to our server from
Windows XP Pro, once the current user on the XP box logs off the VPN
connection gets closed. This is a big problem for me in that I need to do
remote administration on that machine, and as soon as I login to the XP box
via Remote Desktop, it logs the current user out and thus kills the VPN
connection I am connecting over, which kills my Remote Desktop session.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the VPN connection open?

Thanks,
Wells

You could always try VNC. It gives you true remote administration
without logging the user off.

The problem with VNC is the same problem as connecting with Remote Desktop:
the remote machine needs some routable address. Currently the machines that
I am trying to administer are behind a NAT I don't have control of. That was
the entire reason I was setting up a VPN. By setting up a VPN the remote
machine has an IP address on my local network...

Thanks,
Wells

You can use ViPNet VPN - it has the integration with VNC, you can call
a VNC session strait from the vpn client and ViPNet VPN can handle the
work over NAT environment.
