Keep SMC or ditch for netgear?

I got a pair of SMC products a few weeks ago - the 802.11g wireless
barricade router (45 after $25 rebate) and 802.11g wireless barricade pcmcia
card (24 after $20 rebate). I havent had luck. I figured same product lines
great no problems at all. It's been horror getting my card to work with the
router, very buggy and spotty. After three hours with three 'techs' (who
just knew enough english to pass, hard to understand), all taking me through
the same steps over and over (literally, step, 'ok, lets try this again...
and again..'), i finally got an RMA. SMC is sending me another card in
advance then I send my old one.

But, to the question. I see netgear has an 802.11g combo for $82 after a $30
rebate and $10 off coupon at buy.com. Should I bail on SMC, buy the netgear,
then sell my SMC router + card combo? Or should I stick with SMC and wait
for the arrival of the new card? Do you anticipate the same problems with a
new card?

I ask because I havent found many posts from people using the duo smc combo,
but the very few i read have had problems, until they got a new card
(different brand).

What is the verdict here? Buy the netgear and sell the SMC combo on ebay or
something, or wait and hope the new smc card is any better and actually
works?

Brian

To say that SMC is better or worse than any other, I doubt that it is worst.
They make this stuff like pop corn so who is to say that you will not run
into a bad batch, by switching to another manufacturer.

It's good that you keep things pointed to one vendor by buying all equipment
from the same manufacture.
