Keep Losing connection to router

Maybe someone can help this laymen out. My once, always reliable connection
from my Dell Inspiron 700m to my Linksys router is now giving me a problem.
The connection between the laptop & router becomes disconnected for no
apparent reason. When I click on “available wireless networks” my router is
there on the top with an excellent signal. When I click reconnect it does
not. Then I click “repair” and the message says, Windows could not finish
repairing the problem, for assistance contact the person who manages your
network”. I changed out the router and still have this problem. Could it be
the wireless adapter is bad on my laptop?
Can anybody help me with this problem?

Dead in the water.

for starters, post info on what brand wireless card, what version
drive and which windows operating system.

did anything change in your environment? cordless phone? did a
neighbor install a wireless router? did a driver get upgraded? did
you get a virus or malware on your computer?

posting the text output of

ipconfig /all

will also help

the newest drivers are from 11/7, you should try these:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ional&lang=eng

also, have you tried logging into the router and changing the
wireless channel? what kind of wireless security are you using?

I downloaded the drivers the other day, that didn't work.
I'm using "WEP" security and I don't know how to change the channel on the
router.
Can you guide me on that one?

Thanks again for your help in this matter.

You can log into most Linksys routers using a web browser and typing
in

http://192.168.1.1

what model Linksys router and hardware version do you have?

what firmware is in the router?

once you reply with the model and hardware version, I should be able
to direct you to the user manual for your router.

Barb,
Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GL (Firmware Version: v4.30.11)
I've been getting very familiar with my router and the configuration browser.
I upgraded the firmware, reset the router and still no results. The security
I'm using is "WEP" which has always been in place since I got it .
Speaking of WEP, I noticed that everytime I enable it, in the
router/browser I lose my connection on the laptop. When I go back in, and
disable the WEP, my connection comes back and everything works fine. It's
beyond me.
Maybe something is not configured right on my Laptop?
We're getting close.

Your help is much appreciated in this matter.

WEP is not safe to begin with. Can you please reconfigure for WPA2
or at least WPA and see if this changes anything?

Ok, but what will I need to know as far as configuration? I tried changing
over to WPA the other day but the router/ browser asked me for info. I wasn't
familiar with.
I mean, I do, have the option for WPA2 & WPA, but there is some setup
involved. Not just clicking on WPA, Right?
Help
