Hi

What is the best way to configure resources in DHCP? Is to statically
assign the IP address on the server/printer or dynamically in conjunction
with a reservation? What are the benefits/disadvantages of both?

Thanks
Tony

Hello TJ,

For servers always use fixed ip's so you can be sure that they are always
reachable with the correct ip. If you ever use scripts that belongs to the
ip, it wan't work after changing. For printers i would choose DHCP with reservation,
so if there is a need for moving them to another subnet/network for whatever
reason it will still get an ip and you are able to access it via webinterface
and reconfigure it for the new situation. If it then comes back you do not
have to reconfigure everything again. Basically we use for our user machines
DHCP and servers/printers/librarys etc. fixed ip's.

Best regards

Thanks Meinolf,

How would you deal with the server range? Would you exclude them from the
scope or still use a reservation?
My scope is 10.1.1.2 to 10.1.1.225. The servers/printers are between
10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.40. Users and RAS uses 10.1.1.65 to 10.1.1.225. At
Present servers and printers have static IP's and users dynamic IP's.
Everything between 2 and 64 is excluded and there are reservations for the
Servers/Printers.

Hello TJ,

I would only configure the scope for the real needed ip's, so only for normal
leases and reservations. Fixed addresses always exclude completely.
