Just ordered 1mbit

I've had the 512k connection from Pipex for the past two years. Just ordered
their 1mbit product. I know it's not the cheapest on the market but I can't
be arsed with the hassle of changing provider.

Can somebody tell me how long Pipex typically take to change my service?
What are expected download speeds?

TIA
Dan

Technically impossible without transfer compression. Run a proper
bandwith test and get back to us.

Well, no it isn't. The line might be 'capped' at 1mbit, but it doesn't mean
that the line is always capped at that speed.
I'll run a test just for you
My results are based on data flowing from a binary newsgroup provider.

Care to elaborate?

Are you an AOL customer using NTLs network, or a pure AOL ADSL customer?
If you're a cable customer I know why you get that figure, if you're an
ADSL one I really cannot.

Eh ?

Are you saying you accidentally got a 2M connection or summat ?

1024 kbit/s divide 8 = 128 kbytes/s with no allowance for overheads
like ATM or AOL's VPN (if they still use that).

My 1M line gets me about 118 kbytes/s

Phil
