Hiya, wonder if anyone could help me on this strange problem. I installed a
wireless adsl modem router at the weekend. It's directly connected to our
desktop, and there's a wireless connection to my fiancee's laptop. We're on
Virgin Broadband (512K)

All has been working fine. But this afternoon, my fiancee was on her laptop,
on www.hitched.co.uk when Norton said it downloaded updates, and said did
she want to install them. She clicked 'yes' and her computer rebooted. She
then hasn't been able to visit the Hitched site since. She tried on our
desktop, but still the same. Site just times out. Every other site worked
fine. I then tried connecting our PC via my mobile, on a GPRS connection,
and the site loaded fine. I then reconnected to our router, still nothing
from Hitched. I switched our router off, then back on again. Still nothing.
I then went into our router settings, and clicked on re-start router, and
now it works fine!

Can anyone explain this? It seems that installing Norton updates while on a
webpage, made our router block access just to that one site! Could something
have happened on reboot, to disturb our router?

PS, I'm currently going through a speed upgrade (due on the 18th) to up our
speed to 2MB which I done last night, if that should make any difference!

Thanks for any help given!

Matthew Long

Sounds like a result - it`ll save you a fortune ;-)

Other than that, i`m afraid I don`t know... do you have PeerGuardian
installed, or has the update introduced content filtering ? - you might
need to re-allow the site if its been tagged as spam / advertising etc.

Heh .... looks like Norton has paid for itself many times over !!

Or, just tell your missus that hitched.co.uk has been shitlisted by every
ISP in the UK for distribution of dodgy material ;o)

Not as far as I know. I don't think I have any filtering switched on. It
seems OK now, but had another weird problem at lunchtime. I fired up the
computer, and it said my LAN connection was faulty. Something about not
being able to acquire the ip address of the router??? I checked all the
settings, and tried to use the 'repair wizard', which was no use. Eventually
I switched the router off for 30 seconds at the plug, then switched it back
on, and all is fine! Do you think I possibly have dodgy software on my
router? I think I might just take it back to Argos this Saturday, ad try
another one, as it's only a week old.

If you're having to do that to repair a LAN connection I think you
should take it back tp Argos (?) as it's not fit for purpose..
