just installed new linksys WRT54gl - internet connection now seemsintermittant

I just installed and configured my new wrt54gl router so I could take
advantage of my wireless capability in my laptop. Previous to this I had
a d-link DI-604 router. Everything went fairly smooth, once I got it all
working I noticed the following:

My speed tests on speakeasy.net now seem consistently faster on the
downloads, but the uploads consistently slower.

I am also getting more "connection has timed out" messages when
accessing the usual pages I go to.

The only thing other than normal setup I have done is set up port
forwarding for bittorent, and one thing about that I did notice was
there seems to be no firewall rules list to add bittorrent to like there
was with the DI-604

I'm thinking perhaps the trouble is just with the ISP and this is a
coincidence, but before I bypass the router and/or put the d-link back
in, I'm wondering if there is something I may have missed with this
router that someone here can point out. I've read TFM front to back and
it seems like I've done it all as it should be.

BTW the pc I am having problems on is using a wired connection, not
wireless.

Go to http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads.php click on
DD-WRT.v23SP2 then standard and choose DD-WRT.v23_wrt54g.bin upgrade to
this firmware and you will have more control over your router. When it
asks you for the user name and password the user name will be root and
the password is admin If for some reason you can't get a login in screen

hold the reset button for 30 sec all will be well.

Before you go and do that check out this page first:

Should check your router's version and make sure it's fully compatible with
the correct dd-wrt version and see if there are any special flashing
instructions..... or else you could brick your router.
