I Just Got Paid To RTFM!

I was just sitting thinking about how I spent most of Monday and Tuesday
reading websites and howtos and newsgroups trying to track down the
simplest little thing - "How do I open port 80"? It turns out it's
simplicity itself - if you understand, or at least can write, iptables.
You just open the bleeding port. No wonder it wasn't a popular topic. ;-)
In fact, most of what I found was "How do I _close_ the port?".

Anyways, I was going to say how I know I, and others, advocate trying to
find the answer on one's own, especially if it's something like homework.
Or worse yet, paid work, right? "How much are you getting paid for my
time?"

But I just realized, when I turned in my time sheet, I worked from Monday
through Tuesday trying to find something that could have been answered
in 30 seconds, if I'd asked first. At $15.00 an hour. So I earned $240.00
for just reading; if I'd asked first I'd have missed out on two days'
pay, because the thing would have been done Monday morning instead of
Tuesday night.

So, Thanks for making me Read The Fucking Manual! It Pays! ;-)

Cheers!
Rich
