This may be a daft question but us old 'uns can be a bit slow on the uptake.
I have just linked 2 PCs with a home network starter kit ( Network
cards.....switch.....cables )
It seems to work fine after getting the PCs to accept the cards. (Main= XP
pro. Second_ win 98) My problems seem to be with getting the main PC to
respond to commands from the second one. Can I actually show the main XP
computers desk top on the second one and control it from there ? Some help
on how to do that would be much appreciated.
Mike@Lincoln.

Have a google for "Remote Desktop Connection". This should be what you
need.

There are other ways (like "VNC"), but this is probably a good one with
which to start.

Any reference to trees or their herding is purely coincidental.

As the second PC is W98, not without third-party software. If they were both
XP, then yes you could, using Romote Desktop.
Google for PC Anywhere, that's a firm favourite.......

You don't need third party software - Microsoft provide the client for free:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...dclientdl.mspx

I think you'll find that PC Anywhere is third party software and is not
free. This makes it a silly choice, IMO.

As deKay said, Remote Desktop is free and available from MS.

That's what I said the OP needed!

I never said it was.

I didn't know that. Why should I?

Remote Desktop only works when you connect to XP Pro (not XP Home). Is the
same true for PC Anywhere: does this have a component that installs on the
PC that you are connecting to, or does it too require facilities that are in
Pro but not Home?

I was correcting the inaccurate statement you had made about RDC. Let's
not argue, it doesn't help the OP or others.

RDC does NOT come with W98. I was unaware you could download it for use ON
W98.
