I am in the prossess of bring a new windows 2003 server
into my 2000 domain. I have 3 servers runing 2000 server
and would like any info on the best way to go about this.
Would it be best to upgrade the existing 2000servers to
server 2003 or is running the adprep tool on the PDC a
good way to go.
Are there any other issues I should know about?
Also should I install 2003 server off the network first or
will I even be able to do that.
If there are any articles you could direct me to also.

Thanks Mike

Personally, I'd install the Server 2003 operating system and when
asked, specify the domain to add it to.

I have heard that there is a problem with the schema
between 2000 and the 2003 server which could cause
problems.

Hi Mike,

you need to upgrade the schema first.

see the following kb:
"How to Upgrade Windows 2000 Domain Controllers to Windows Server 2003"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;325379
Note that the article also describes the steps necessary to add Windows Server
2003 DCs to a W2k Domain.

If you have the W2k-AD Schema extended with Exchange 2000, please make sure to
take care of the inetorgperson problem also described in the article under
"Exchange 2000 in Windows 2000 Forests"

Gruesse - Sincerely,

Do you want the 2003 Server to be a DC or do you just want it to be a member
server? Adding it to the domain as a member server is quite simple and
requires no more than adding a Windows 2000 server as a member server.

I am going to make it a DC and install Exchange 2003 and
then take my server with server 2000 and Exchange 2000 off
the network.
