Thanks all for the answer with regards to my AP.

I have a new question now

I have a wireless access point, 4 pc on a network all wired just the laptop
uses the AP.

My mate 4 doors away has a network wired, we wish to play LAN games and
share a couple of files.

Do we just need to stick a wireless pci card in one of his machines?

Cheers
Chris

Doubtful, try taking the laptop up there and see what the signal is
like.

In principal, yes. But in practice you might have problems getting
enough signal that far away.

As long as you can get a good signal. If he uses a wireless ethernet
bridge rather than a PCI device he can just connect it to his network
switch with a length of Cat5, which will make positioning the device a
lot more flexible and provide connectivity to the whole of his LAN. You
will need to set the IP addresses of the two LANs so they can see each
other without clashing, so best to avoid DHCP on either LAN.

Signal is not a problem will put the AP in the loft on test is was ok,the
wireless ethernet bridge sounds less work will take at look.
I have the AP locked down but what sort of security will wireless ethernet
bridge have ?

Cheers
Chris

I can't speak for them all, but I'm perfectly satified with the Belkin
F5D7330 bridge.

This does encryption up to WPA2 (AES) and the setup can be password
protected.

I use it on all kit that 'visits' my WLAN.
