joining my domain

hey all,
i just went through the Configure Your Server wizard and installed a typical
First Server with Acitvie Directory.

i can ping from the domain to pc that's trying to join but i can't ping from
pc to domain. Any ideas why this may be happening. This is a closed network
with only a single server and a single client.

Did you setup DNS? Do you have the client pointing
towards the DNS server? If so, open a dos prompt
and run nslookup www.yourdomainame.com. Do
you get a response?

I assume by "ping from the domain" that you mean "ping from the domain
controller."

If you cannot ping the domain controller from a PC on the same network, try
the following:

[1] Can you ping the IP address of the DC but not the hostname? If the IP
address succeeds but the hostname fails, you've got a DNS problem.

[2] Do you have the Windows Firewall enabled on the server? This will
block ICMP traffic (necessary for PINGs to succeed) by default.
