I have a situation where I converted a windows xp workstation from a
domain to a workgroup.

When I try to rejoin the domain using the change option under computer
properties they get a message saying:
the following error occurred attempting to join the domain
"thisdomain": An internal error occured.

Has anyone seen this problem before? does anyone have any ideas on
resolving
this problem?

Check your DNS Server under TCP/IP properties. Make sure that the DNS
server's IP is the IP of the DNS Server of the domain machine.

I had a similar problem which was resolved by first adding the computer name
to the AD Domain Controller and then joining the computer to the domain.
