I have a W2K3 server and a W2K server. Both are acting as DC's. I am
eventually going to phase out the W2K server. My 2K3 server is my DHCP and
primary DNS server. I have also set it up as the WINS server. I have about
30 computers joined to the domain at this office. I then have 4 remote
offices that are acting as workgroups. I am trying to join them to the
domain. From a remote computer, i can ping the servers. If i do an
NSlookup, i can resolve by both name and IP. The main office is using the
following IP range: 192.168.46.1-201 and a 255.255.255.0 SM. The remote
offices, are 192.168.47.1-192. using either 255.255.255.224 or .192 SM. When
i try to join the computers to the domain, i enter the following as my
domain: domain.local. It then prompts for a username/PW. I enter proper
credentials. After about a minute, it comes back and says "could not join
domian, RPC Server is unavailable". I am including a copy of the
netsetup.log file for review as well.
Thanks in advance
Rich

What is the DNS setting on these workstations? Do they point to the
primary DNS server for your domain? It might also help to give them the
domain suffix for the domain in the "Computer Name" page of System
Properties to help them find the domain controller. What happens if you do
an nslookup for just the domain name (eg mydomain.local) ?

Bill
Thanks for the reply. DNS is set to the primary DNS server. I have already
added the suffix prior to posting. I just did an nslookup and typed the
domain.local and it resolved it properly. It resovled to the W2K3 server and
then also resolved both DC's IP addresses. It had the same results as my
computer and mine is located in the main office.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks
Rich
