Jealous Laptop angry with me?

The following wasn't an issue a few weeks ago, but now, if attempting to
connect to another hotspot outside my home, it'll connect, but I can't browse
the internet. Within IE explorer, it'll say that it is detecting proxy
settings, but that's it; just blank screen. Even weirder, I lose the ability
to view my Internet options (under tools) within IE explorer and preferances
(under file).

After that, when I go home and try to connect to my LAN, the problem
persists, and I have to do a system restore for it all to work.

My home network is WEP secured, but at work, it's open, and at barnes and
nobles, my other local coffee shop, where I get my motorcycle worked on,
etc., its an open network. I USED to be able to browse fine, but now, it
just connects to those networks, but no internet...

What is this problem and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

This looks like a virus or malware.

Hmm. well, I've accustomed myself to virus scans everyday, and it hasn't
picked up anything, but maybe it is malware. I'll check it out
