I've become a server

Dear All,

I use a win98 PC in my University. It is connected to the
departmental server, and I just use it for simple things
like word processing etc.
While most of the other PCs are visible in network
neighbourhood (or later windows equivalents), this PC had
never been visible. That has only become a problem
recently, so I tried to make it visible.
It worked, but when I double-click to open it, expecting
it to open and display my shared folders, it asks me to
log on.
If I right-click on the computer icon instead of double-
clicking, there are options to "Authenticate" and "log on
to server" or similar. When I click properties, I am
presented with server information.
It seems I have inadvertantley turned my PC into a
server. I can find anywhere where I might have done this.

How can I stop it trying to be a server?

Thanks for any help,

Phil

create a user account, which exists on the problem machine, with the same
name and password on another computer. then logon using that and
connect to the problem machines shares and see if it still asks u for
a password.
