Yeah, right. "Official" my arse. How many people voted? What's that figure
as a %age of their overall customer base. etc.

They are, however, *officially* recognised as the UK best consumer ISP.

It doesn't matter what the percentage of the overall customer base is.
You take them facts, you take the posts in all the broadband forums, you
take all the retention deals made to keep those who actually want to
leave the company.
It is happening... and it's not goin to get better, believe me.

See the date?
February 2007... that's 8 months ago.
It has turned upside down since then.
That means nothing now... you know it, and I know it.
That was then, this is now.

This was when they were still 'Telewest'

It's gotta be hard to beat Orange...

This was when they were Telewest.

This was when they were Telewest.

They did say that things were goin to get a lot better didn't they...
I can sit here all day writin all the stuff they did that made it worse.

Well, duh. Imagine - three people vote, out of a customerbase of
three trillion. All three say "gonz is a plonker". Does that mean that
100% of customers agree gonz _is_ a plonker? Or that only
0.0000000001% agree?

>They are, however, *officially* recognised as the UK best consumer ISP.

I'd very much like to know how they come by that...

Officially recognized by whom ?

Meeting more and more folks on Virgin who are all saying the same
thing..it's gotten much much slower this last two or three
months..obviously traffic management kicking in..

I really can't see how they should get away with charging me for an
'Up to 8Mbps' service, which when running outside of their peak
management times runs at 6Mbps, and then during peak times (when I
really need to use it) they turn the taps right back to just around
200Kbps-300Kbps.

Surely the description of their service ought to read:

'Up to 8Mbps midnight to 4pm - managed down to 500Kbps or less between
4pm and midnight'

When you call them and ask why it appears that you are being traffic
managed and that you have measured your data download over several
weeks and it's far from their suggested limits, all you get is someone
saying that they can't tell who is or isn't being managed and that
there's nothing that they can do about it anyway.

Something desperately wrong at their end and I'm a little disappointed
that they don't appear to be addressing the problem.

Not the sort of service you'd expect from the company officially
recognised as the UK best consumer ISP !

Do Virgin Media, or whoever, actually run their backbone ? or is it
farmed out to some third unknown party somewhere.

Jim.

Yes, Virgin Media is crap.

I'm not even taking into consideration the comments in this thread.
For "some" reason quite a lot of Virgin Media customers are not
supplied with the telephone number of the helpdesk. It seems that
Virgin Media wants to dodge phone calls to save some money.
I know because I talk to a lot of Virgin Media customers on a daily
basis. People with username and password problems should know the
number, but for some reason the number is not properly mentioned in
documentation...
