I disconnected my peer cable for some time and didn't use the network.
Now Network Neighborhood tells me "Network not accessable."

Did the system decided I didn't newed somiething any more and deleted
it?

I'm adding details of what's going on.

When I remove then again add the network card it appears in Hardware
Manager - with a red X. When I click on it and click on the enable
button it enables

When I remove then again add the network card it appears in Device
manager - with a red X. When I click on it and click on the enable
button it enables, the red X disappears (after rebooting) and clicking
on that line shows a display saying the device is working properly. Also
the PCI card lights up in the ThnkPad Configurator,

But nothing appears in the Network Configuration list. If I click Add
and go through the following process, that process ends up putting the
red X on it again the Device manager - and it becomes marked Disabled.
I can delete the item and start all over with the same result.

What am I missing? How do I get that card to show up in the Network
Configuration when it already shows up in the Device Manager?

I am certainly not preparted to doubt you, but what makes safe mode
better? I pulled the combo card, rebooted removed everything I could
find by either uninstalling or deleting, rebooted a couple times,
returned the card and rebooted again - without effect on operation.

Will safe mode really make the difference? (I hate safe mode. It isn't
safe, judging from the hash it makes of a desktop.)

looking in the device manager in "safe mode" will show "ghost" (multiple)
installtions that will not show in normal mode.
it is a normal trouble shooting practice :>
