There is an ISP, Entanet that puts its customers on a "bad boys' pipe"
**before** they have used the bandwidth for which they have paid. I'm
sure I have it right and I still don't believe that somebody could
out-Plusnet Plusnet.

Check it out for yourselves

(watch any work wrapping).

Entanet does not deal directly with the public but works through
resellers.

I first realised there was a problem when the ssh connection to my PC -
on an Entanet account - slowed to a crawl and I was getting a high
packet loss figure:

Host Loss% Snt Last Avg Best Wrst
1. 192.168.1.1 0.0% 109 0.4 0.4 0.4 0.9
2. lns1.dsl.enta.net 13.9% 109 31.3 32.7 29.9 41.3
3. telehouse-east.core.enta.net 7.3% 109 33.5 33.2 31.7 48.7
4. gi2-2.telehouse-east2.core.enta. 8.3% 108 31.7 35.6 31.2 139.5
5. telehouse-north.core.enta.net 11.1% 108 32.7 45.0 31.3 212.6
6. 194.74.65.57 10.2% 108 32.7 33.3 31.7 43.0
7. core2-pos14-0.ealing.ukcore.bt.n 9.3% 108 33.7 38.5 31.7 191.1
8. mspstart2-fa1-0-0.ealing.fixed.b 11.1% 108 34.5 34.2 32.2 54.8
9. ftip002631776.mspstart2.ealing.f 10.2% 108 45.0 66.4 37.6 210.9

Note the "bad boy pipe" lns1.dsl.enta.net. As a point of reference my
tariff allows for 30GB off-peak. With five days of this month left I
have only used 8GB so far yet I appear to have had my connection
degraded this morning.

I am not impressed. Especially upsetting is that changes which degrade
the quality of service I am receiving from Entanet are never announced
voluntarily but have to dragged out of them by experienced users
spotting the effects.

If they're so bad, why do you stay with them ?

I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when "Gizmo"

It's only just kicked off.

I might not - but I do need some time to assess what the alternatives
are. Entanet (well, reseller UKFSN) are my first ADSL ISP after years
using an NTL cable modem. I am only just starting to get familiar with
the many ADSL companies and how they are perceived by their customers.

Don't forget that any companies that reduce your bandwidth before you reach
your limit are in breach of your contract with them.

Golden rule:
Buy cheap, get cheap

I'd highly recommend Demon

They were my first choice but the useless service I received when I
attempted to sign up with them still gives me nightmares.

And you reach that conclusion how?

Plusnet already do this, I believe, but it is a part of the T&C's
AFAICT, so no recourse.
One of the reasons they've lost me as a customer after at least 5 years
(if not longer)
I'm going to try Nildram out.
