I have a IBM Thinkpad T41 with a internal Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection mini-PCI card. I am having trouble with the following issues:

1 - Connecting to my home wireless network (with only a WEP of Index 1 set
and authenticated), I am able to connect and surf the web. So is my roommate
on his Dell Inspiron (with external Belkins network PC Card). But the
problem is that on my Thinkpad laptop, it will lose and reinstate the
connection every 5 minutes. My roommate's laptop actually freezes after 30
minutes (or less). The wireless router is a CompUSA 802.11g. Prevoiusly
both our computers worked with a Belkin wireless router, but the CompUSA one
seems to be problem.

2 - But, with the same internal card, when I try to connect to my
brother-in-law's Linksys Wireless router, it will also do the same thing as
the CompUSA but it will actually go ahead and disable the wireless
card/connection in Windows Networking.

Does anyone know the answers to the following:

1 - Why does my wireless connection on the Thinkpad go in and out? Possibly
the router settings? Adapter card settings? Router strength?

2 - Why does my roommate's laptop freeze on the same router?

3 - Why does the wireless connection disable itself on the other router?

I've gotten suggestions of updating my internal card's drivers, but want to
hear if there's anything with the actual settings in Windows before doing any
changes. (XP Pro with SP1).

Thanks.

Hi
I doubt that these has any thing to do with Windows, seems more like a
Wireless problem.
It might be the Wireless Card drivers, and or the DHCP's lease settings in
the Router.
If you have a wire Network card in the Laptop use it with the Router for
further ruling out the culprits.

This does sound like hardware problems, but you might also want to
upgrade to SP2. There were a bunch of fixes related to wireless
networking included in SP2. Alternatively, here is the "wireless
rollup" that was included in SP2 available as a separate download:
