Issues with webhosting

I'm hosting a small personal site. I have issues with port
80... I can host easily over the internet when using port
81 or even a higher non regulated port. I have microsoft
router mn500, and I was wondering if there was a way to
have the router forward port 80 for webhosting. I've tried
numerous things and the last thing that could be causing
issues is the router... Does anyone know anything about
this, or am I just a nut job?

Thanks for the help,
Matt

It is possible that your ISP is intentionally blocking port 80 so that you
cannot run your own webserver.

Check with them to confirm.

The router treats port 80 the same way as port 81. You need
to set a port forwarding on port 80 on the router -- if you
have tried this, then your ISP may be blocking port 80, or
your server didn't attach to port 80 (maybe you *forgot* to
restart it).

Start by opening port 80 on the router (it's under
security/port forwarding). Then, set the web server on port
80 -- check it's working on port 80, by using the 127.0.0.1
IP or the 192.168... IP for the server. If this works, try
using the WAN IP (you need the last router firmware for
this -- the x.x.017).

Finally, try from an INternet client (outside your LAN). If
you can't access the server, then it's very likely the ISP.
Remove the router and connect the PC directly to the modem
to eliminate any doubts (make sure to enable the ICF during
the test, with port 80 open).
