Issue trying to MAP drives through a VPN

I have an employee who I need to be able to VPN from home and map to a
network drive.

He is running Windows 98 Second Edition

I can set up the VPN connection fine from his machine and connect to the
network using his username and password. The problem is, when I try to map
a network drive from his pc to \\servername\apps, it gives me a dialogue box
asking for a password to access the resource. It doesn't ask for a user
name, just a password. Only thing I can figure is since the VPN connection
doesn't give you a spot to select the domain, it's not logging the user into
the netowrk, even though it's connecting with their network login and
password.

I don't want to change the network settings to log into a domain (the
computer will rarely connect to the vpn). Is there another way to do it, or
something I am missing?

Thanks

Is the customer supply a user name and password when logging on to the Win98
machine. Try this search for the .pwl file on the users pc (should be the
one with his name) rename it to .pwl2. Have him reboot, Have him enter his
user name and password. Another box will come p to confirm this, make both
boxes blank and say ok. Make the VPN connection, try mapping the Drive by IP
address not name. Does this work? If so delete the mapped Drive and try it
by name? Does this work? Make sure that his VPN proerties for tcpip for
DNS/WINS are your network servers. Next thing, make his work group the same
netbios name as your domain.
What version of Dialup network do you have?I believe the lasest DUN 1.4
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/d...mended/s_wunet
working/dun14/license.asp)

Hope this helps
