For the purpose of distributing anti-virus updates over
the entire network, I put them on the SYSVOL share. Next I
created a share on all domain controllers for the AV-
software.

File-path (on any domain controller, domain controllers
all Windows 2000 SP4)
C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain.name\Sophos_Deploy\
This folder is then shared (on all domain controllers) as
InterChk with FC for the Domain Admins and the
SophosInstaller and read for Everyone.
The distribution point for the virus scanner is then set
to \\domain.name\InterChk, which works great for the
Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 systems in the network.
However, the virus scanner fails to update on all of the
Windows Server 2003 machines.

Now, for some reason, it isn't possible to access the
\\domain.name\InterChk share from any Windows Server 2003
domain-member, even as Domain Admin. From a Windows 2000
or NT 4 machine it does work. Strangely \\any-dc\InterChk
does work from a Windows Server 2003 machine, so does
\\domain.name\Sysvol and \\domain.name\NETLOGON.
The error by Windows Server 2003 by Windows Explorer when
trying to connect to \\domain.name\InterChk is:
+++
\\domain.name\InterChk is not accessible. You might not
have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find if you have access
permissions.

Configuration information could not be read from the
domain controller, either because the machine is
unavailable, or access has been denied.
+++
To me this message doesn't make sense, as I do have access
from Windows 2000 to the same share and via Windows Server
2003 when I address the server directly. What could be the
solution to my problem?
PS. Using the path
\\domain.name\sysvol\domain.name\Sophos_Deploy\ is not a
solution, though this works from a Windows 2003 point of
view, the Sophos virus scanner can't handle that
distribution point.
