Issue with connecting to available networks

When I am unsing my MN-710 wireless card and access my
wireless network, my system every 5 minutes comes back
and stops my connection. It advertises what available
networks are out there and forces me to choose one. I
have removed these networks from my Preferred Networks
field, but they never leave the Availble Networks list.

Any thoughts.

Sounds like you're using WEP encryption, but have the settings with the
MN-710 for 802.11x authentication (WPA). If you take out that check mark in
the Network Connections properties, you shouldn't see the drops. If that
doesn't rectify the issue, try moving your broadcast channel on your LAN
away from what it is currently, and giving your LAN a unique SSID.

Hopefully, if you're not using WPA but only WEP, you will no longer have the
"connection" before being dropped for not authenticating properly, and then
you won't be prompted to select another LAN that may be available upon
"discovery."

I have a question that is not quite the same, but along
the same lines.

I am running a WPA secured network and a nearby business
is running an unsecured network. The question: Is there
anyway to prevent the network name of the nearby business
from appearing in the available wireless network list?
And if not, is there any way to prevent my users from
connecting to that specific network?

This issue arises when my MN-700 needs to be reset (which
is probably more often that it should be due to a cordless
phone). The interference from the phone actually causes
my network name to drop from the available list. All that
is left in the available network list is the neighboring
unsecured network. In their haste to get back online, the
users try to connect to what is available. Unfortunately,
they successfully connect to the neighboring network and
the confusion and cleanup soon begins.

My network name is the only one listed in the Preferred
Networks list and from the Wireless Network Connections
Properties window, Wireless Networks tab, Advanced...I
have selected Access point (infrastructure) networks only,
but still no help.

Any assistance or advice you could give would be greatly
appreciated.

I would change your channel to something away from what they're apparently
using, go to 1 or 11. Change your Workgroup name to something unique, too,
and change your WPA key often.

You could also not broadcast the SSID, and filter by MAC address. There is
information in Chapter 3 of the User's Guide on these items, plus additional
information in Chapter 5, "Network Management."
