isp on wireless

I would like yo know why my laptop says im connected ?

but isp is not right.

I had a links router and it woked fine.

I switched to dsl and modem (westell) with wireless).

If a network connection is present, the system will report it's presence and
the fact that there is trafiic on the line.

In order to move data across the network you need to have authorised access
which may not have been granted if you do not have an account.


Not sure what else you mean with the curious language of your post.

You need to shut down the computer, shut down the modem for a minute,
restart the modem and then restart the computer to register the computer
MAC address with the modem. You should get the proper IP address, and
lease.
From then on, you do not need to shut down the modem unless the
connected computer or router changes.

If you had a router, you can and should connect it to the modem simply
for the protection that NAT offers. Since the router is a new
"computer", shut down the modem and router, then start the modem and
then the router to register the router MAC address with the modem.
