ISP Major Business Players

Who are the current set of tier1 ISP's for business use? The sort of lines
were after vary from 2mb adsl to 2mb leased lines or their equivalent with
full SLA's and one 100mb link with some form of failover backup.

Downtime is a major issue and prefer a company that takes ownership of a
problem once highlighted and see's it through to completion. An SLA not
backed up by this sort of customer service is pointless, which were finding
out with our current ISP.

Zen (my employer) provide an SLA and customer service which may be
appropriate to your needs. If you contact our business sales team
they'll be able to provide details of both our leased line and xDSL
products to you.

Note that "tier-1" has a particular meaning which makes such a provider
unlikely to be a good choice for end-user internet access. Tier1
providers have large, global, networks with direct connectivity only to
their customers and other tier-1 networks. They don't buy access from
anyone, and generally will only sell >=100Mbit/s services.

A good quality tier-2 provider, who buys from more than one tier-1
provider in addition to having extensive peering arrangements to reach
places that matter to you, will generally give end-users a better
quality of Internet access.

eg, extensive UK peering will bring most other UK end-users, hosting
companies, etc, "closer" to you in network terms. Multiple "local" paths
to those destinations will also reduce the chance of your traffic being
routed via another country.

Zen operate a resilient, high capacity, UK network, presently using
Level3 and Sprint (both global tier-1 networks with excellent track
records) for global Internet access, and peer extensively with other
providers, both domestic and international.
