Hi all,
I have a strange problem with a notebook. I run a domain with a
Windows Server 2003 based domain controller which also functions as a
DHCP server and router between 2 subnets.
On the first subnet, which uses IP addresses in the 192.168.0.xxx
range, I have a hub with a development workstation attached.
furthermore, from time to time I connect a couple of notebooks to this
hub.
The notebooks all run Win XP Professional, and the development
workstation Win2K Prof.
The second subnet, which uses IP addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx range,
uses a router containing both a hub with 4 10Base-T ports, as well as
a Wireless access point. Furthermore, this router also has a dedicated
T1 connection to the Internet. I primarily connect a couple of
notebooks to this hub.
The Domain Controller and the workstation both function properly; I
can ping everything on both subnets, and the Internet connections from
these hosts is Ok.
The first problem concerns one of my notebooks: when I attach the
notebook with a cable to the hubs (regardless of which subnet) the
connection to the other network hosts functions properly; I can ping
all other hosts on both subnets from the notebook.
However, when I then browse the Internet from the notebook, this
Internet connection falls out frequently - after a while on the
internet, the connection drops down, and a couple of minutes later it
connects again, and so on.
The second problem is with the Wireless access point. When I connect
the notebooks via this AP, they do not get an IP address from the DHCP
server; they default to the APIPA address. When I define a hard-coded
IP in the 192.168.1.xxx range in the Alternate IP address, and this
address gets used, I can connect to the network; however, the Internet
connection is inaccessible via the Wireless AP.
I'm completely stuck. Hope that somebody will be able to help.
Thanks in advance.
