IPX/SPX problems

I've been trying to activate the IPX/SPX protocol on my
brother's machine for over a day now. It isn't following
the normal procedure which I did on my own machine. When I
try I get the following error on reboot... 'Problem with
protocol 0 - Error #254'. Any attempt to access IPX
results in a '...could not open socket...' error. Normally
I wouldn't even bother with this #@$% IPX as it is legacy
crap anyway (TCP/IP is so much easier to deal with),
however my brother's machine is a little dated (P II 350)
and can only handle the older games such as Command &
Conquere - which only use IPX for network play.

I've tried removing the dialup networking, etc... and re-
installing. Same with the IPX (with and without Novel
Netware Client support installed)... no help. Whatever
runtime component is screwing up is staying put through-
out these attempts.

If anyone has any experience with this problem I would
love to here it (short of re-installing the windows 98 on
my brother's machine - which would have been my first
choice yesterday, except I would have to re-install all my
brother's software).

Hi,

lots of games require netbios on ipx to operate , so
enable netbios on top of ipx in the properties of ipx,
this might be the issue
