After dutiful cypherin and high level calculatin from my 6th grade
edukation, 7,500kb/sec comes to about 7 mbits/sec. Just TCP traffic.

Aint that sorta slow?

ifconfig doesn't show actual hardware link speed as negotiated at boot
- is there a good way to do this?

Is there some cool util that will suggest buffer sizes etc to tune
this thing? Boy, this thing is a dog.

BTW - Suse 8. I think the chips are Nvidia or some other proprietary
chipset.

thanks yall

That's the problem right there.
Have you tried with an actual separate NIC?
Tulip-based NICs seem to work well.
