I'm trying to set up a spare computer up as a linux box and use it as a
firewall for my network. I would also like to set up a http server and
other services. What is the best iptables firewall config. to use in
this situation.

It's a good idea to only use the box as a firewall and run no other
network-aware stuff on it. That way it's a lot harder to compromise the box
and so gain access to your network. I dug out an old 200MHz Pentium for the
job and it's fine for that. The servers now all sit on a mini-ITX machine
with a Via CPU and that works quite nicely as well. Not too expensive
either.

Setting it up is fairly easy, just go read the HOWTO documents on the
subject. It only gets tricky if you want to get fancy like have two
internet feeds.
