iPlayer speeds on the wii are poor

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this.

iPlayer streaming is really poor on the Wii, but doing the same on a Mac
laptop is flawless. Is there some throttling going on somewhere or is
the Wii underpowered for live streaming? They are both connected to my
router via wireless 'g', supposedly.

Any pointers appreciated.

The price you pay for this games console, yes it is a games console, is
possibly half the cost of other games consoles so you can't expect a Rolls
Royce at Ford prices.

I forgot to mention that the problems seem purely down to a lack of
bandwidth. The streaming often stalls and sometimes I a get message
stating there's not enough bandwidth.

Actual playback is OK, it's just the stalling that's a problem.
Bandwidth is not overly affected by underlying hardware is it?

Yep. when we both had 400Mhz G4 macs we couldn't stream flash except on
a very small screen. Then my wife got a G5, and I got a new PC with
Linux. she could stream full speed full screen, I couldn't.

After a kernel and video driver upgrade and going full 64 bit, we both
enjoy full screen I-player rubbish.

Inspection of the CPU monitor showed that for whatever reason, flash is
very CPU intensive. You need a fairly powerful machine with/or a good
graphics chipset do do it.

When I finally did my upgrades, I tried some flash games. WHAT a
difference. I couldn't keep up wit the action..

I would suggest those as a less bandwdidth intensive way to check how
fast flash runs on your machines.

Ah, thanks. So it is/was a throttling issue.

It's been at least a week since I last tried it. I'll try it again
tonight, plus the diagnostics, and see if there's an improvement.

Am I best to post here or at the PN forum?

Done, but I'll also update here to say that the iPLayer on the Wii was
flawless this evening. Watched Top Gear with no buffering at all.
