PC #1 (win98) was using USB to connect to a cable modem -
worked fine.
PC #2 (winXP) came along, and after unplugging usb and
power from Cable modem, and connecting #2s cat5 cable and
re-powering my cable modem - internet worked fine.

Now, PC2 ran fine connected to the cable modem through my
linksys 4port router. I installed a 3com network card
into PC1, and connected it to my router as well. PC1
can 'ping' an IP address no problem (including yahoo and
my router's IP), but cannot ping a web address, and my
browser (explorer), will not display anything. I tried
taking PC2 out of the loop completely and re-powering, and
I know that my IE settings are correct. PLEASE HELP!! I'm
a PC tech myself for my local hospitol, so this is really
driving me crazy!!!

Thanks!! AIM-jackrabbix YIM-Jackrabbix

Hey Jesse,
I know what you mean about being driven crazy by these
type of issues.

I wish I had an answer for you but I don't and am in
fact, having the same exact problem with one machine in
my network. NOTHING changed at that machine and one day,
it cannot resolve DNS. I feel like I am caught in a time
warp or something because I too KNOW that all
the "normal" settings are correct.

I have posted on Expert's Exchange and have had a few
ideas thrown at me but none have worked.

Here is what has been ruled out:
Connectivity; as I can ping, pathping and tracert to IP's
all over the world, inside and outside and out of my
domain.

Let me know if you find anything out and I'll do the
same!

it turned out that the firewall software on the win98 PC,
although turned off, for some reason still want blocking
port 80 (the http port). I unistalled it, and it ran
smooth as ice.

Hooray!
