My workplace do not let me (users) to connect using Microsoft remote desktop
connection, is there any other way of connecting to my Static IP address, I
do not have a server but I have a drektek router. I would like to remote
control it but if I can't I would like to be able to get to my files.

Please help Me

Harry

You could change the port that Remote Desktop listens on.

Likewise you could setup an authenticated FTP/Web server that would
allow you to browse your hard drive remotely.

Generally I'd expect you sign up to some sort of computer usage policy
though, so I'd expect your IT people not to be too happy if they find
out you're trying to circumvent their policies.

cheers,
Paul

No. You must go through your IT department at work. If you do not, then
prepare for disciplinary action. Corporate IT departments lock this
stuff down to prevent malicious and inadvertent damage, which can cost
big money to fix.

As Paul says, run remote desktop on a non-standard port.
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;306759

Discover a port which outbound connection is permitted to, and use that.
That may take a little trial-and-error.
What Internet apps work, and which don't from within the company LAN?
That will tell you the outbound ports permitted.

A good choice is sometimes 1863, the port which messenger servers use.
( can you access messenger from the work PCs? )

Failing that, port 80 or 21 are usually ok, so long as you don't want to run
web or FTP services from your home PC.

Of course, that would be naughty, and I'd never do that myself...

You need to consider the size of the company, as this gives an idea of the
firewall sophistication. For a small company what you say is correct, but
with a mid-sized enterprise upwards you will find that common services are
either proxied (80 certainly, and maybe 443 using WebSweeper or similar), or
undergo some form of packet inspection. Mail (POP3/SMTP) is almost certainly
restricted to the internal IP of the mail server or mail gateway for virus
and malware scanning.

Even is services ARE proxied there are ways around it (e.g. http wrappers or
similar), but you have to ask yourself if you really want to make an enemy
of your IT department.

PS - My advice...
Work up a business reason for you needing this, and ask them to provide it!
Doing otherwise, whilst technically possible, may have negative career
impact!
