hi
i cannot get an ip address from my router. all i get is a 169 address. the
router shows connection lites. i have tried other ports which have working
computers on them and again all i get is the 169 address.
can anyone help me on resolving this?

oh yeah, i did try different cables as well, but not nic cards.

Have you compared network settings between the working PCs and the one that
doesn't work?

Try setting the network card's speed and duplex mode to 100 Mb, full
duplex. Automatic sensing doesn't always work.

If that doesn't help, try un-installing the network card in Device
Manager, moving it to a different slot, and re-installing it.
