ip address assigned bu dhcp but cannot access network

I Have a win 98 pc on a mixed network all working fine until apower outage.
this one pc refuses to go back on the network although it happily gets an ip
address from the router.it will ping itself and sometimes show up on
NetNEIGH but after removing the adapter several times from device manager, i
am getting a bit Pis*&^ed.
Any suggestions short of hitting it with a hammer will be appreciated.
