I would think that your bridge is in the optimal position for reception from
your neighbors house.
I would leave the bridge where it is, buy a router and connect the bridge to
the router with Ethernet cable. The router does not need to be next to the
bridge, in other words it can be located near the center of the house for
better coverage.
You could just try roaming around your house first to see if reception fades
out first, but I would suspect this would be the case.
If you do decide to just roam with multiple computers without buying a
router, they would all be on the same channel and SSID.
I just read your post again, and you ask if you should disable routing which
has me confused. Are you using a router as a bridge? Most likely your are
using a bridge as a bridge.
