No, you don't. Since Linux versioning doesn't go beyond 2.6 (2.6.8, I believe),
you /can't/ have "Linux 7.3". What you probably have is version 7.3 of
"Someone's Linux". This may sound like a nit, but it does make a difference.
Slackware Linux 7.3 is significantly different than Lindows Linux 7.3.

What do you mean, "get the internet"? What sort of symptoms do you see on the
Linux box? Can you traceroute out to the gateway box? Can you traceroute beyond
the gateway? How far beyond the gateway? Are you using an IP address from the
'private' range? If so, does your gateway perform the requisite NAT function to
substitute a public IP address?
Let's see
a) the results of /sbin/ifconfig from the linux box
b) a traceroute to your gateway
c) a traceroute to some well-known external IP address
d) information about your gateway machine.
My bet is that your gateway machine isn't functioning properly. It wouldn't
surprise me if you tell us that the gateway machine is an MSWindows box of some
sort, with MSWindows "Internet Connection Sharing" enabled.
